Clips, TV Spots, and Images for The Battle of the Five Armies
The marketing continues for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. The first video below is a clip from the movie as Bilbo volunteers for a task. The second video shows about a minute of the battle sequence that ends the movie. The last video is three TV spots one after the other. After those videos five stills from the movie are kind of anti-climatic.

Jackson Talks Final Battle in The Hobbit and Images from Movie
In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly The Hobbit trilogy director Peter Jackson provided a few hints (and images) about the the titles' Battle of Five Armies that will be a 45 minute long finale to the entire trilogy. Below his comments on the logistics of planning the battle and click here to see his over all plan on how the armies merge on the Erebor battlefield. In addition The One Ring has posted 27 images from the movie, those can be found here.
“There’s a lot of logistics that have to be thought through,” says Jackson. “We have dwarves and men and elves and orcs, all with different cultures, with different weapons, and different shields and patterns and tactics.”
“Before we could loose the first arrow, we had to design the landscape itself and figure out, ‘Okay, if we have 10,000 orcs, how much room are they going to take up?’?” Jackson says. “?‘Are they going to fill up the valley or look like a speck?’ Then we could start drawing the arrows on the schematics.”
“Tolkien uses eagles in a way that can be kind of awkward because they tend to show up out of the blue and change things pretty quickly,” says the director. “So here they’re just part of the plan, not the saviors. I mean, I do realize that if the eagles had just been able to bring Frodo to Mount Doom in Lord of the Rings and let him drop the ring in, those movies would have been much shorter.”

New Images Show Cumberbatch Motion Capture for Smaug
New images posted on TolkienNerd's flickr show Benedict Cumberbatch performing his motion capture for his role as Smaug the Dragon in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. While his casting has been known for over a year, this is the first time able to get an idea on how a human would play a dragon. The pics are probably from an upcoming production diary so will hopefully learn more about how it works soon. (via The One Ring)

New Poster and Image from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (Updated)
Two new images have popped up online for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The first is a scene that probably will occur at a midway point in the movie as the dwarves escape capture using barrels. The image seems so staged in layout that I suspect it is really part of another poster and not a still from the movie. Speaking of posters, there is also a new one with an image of Bilbo being reflected in the eye of Smaug. Update: Added two new but old images. The first is a watermark free image of Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel from early June while the other is a still from the recent teaser trailer.

First Image from The Hobbit: There and Back Again
Entertainment Weekly has posted the first image from The Hobbit: There and Back Again which is the final movie in the trilogy and not coming out until July 18, 2014. The image shows The Bard of Laketown having a conversation with Legolas (Orlando Bloom), likely before the climatic Battle of Five Armies.
“He’s [elven king] Thranduil’s son, and Thranduil is one of the characters in The Hobbit, and because elves are immortal it makes sense Legolas would be part of the sequence in the Woodland Realm,” director Peter Jackson explains. Conferring with Legolas is one of the Hobbit trilogy’s major new faces: the heroic human Laketown warrior Bard the Bowman (Luke Evans). “Bard is an interesting character, but [in the book] he’s kind of a random character who comes in after the fact,” says screenwriter and producer Philippa Boyens. “We take more time introducing him. We know from what follows that he was a father, so we [explore] that. I don’t think we take liberties, because it’s all there in the storytelling.”

French Tolkien website Tolkiendrim has posted the first image of Bolg, one of the bad guys in The Hobbit Trilogy. In the novel the character appears leading the Goblin/Orc army in the climatic Battle of Five Armies. In the movie, it is possible that Peter Jackson came up with a way to introduce him much earlier into the story. In what way remains unknown but going by the picture he is going to leave an impression. If interested in more images of the characters, The One Ring has posted images from a deck of The Hobbit playing cards here.

New The Hobbit Pics for Tolkien Week

Tolkien Week has more or less officially kicked off in celebration of the 75th Anniversary of The Hobbit which was published on September 21, 1927. The week ends with Hobbit Day on September 22 to mark the birthdays of Bilbo and Frodo. This Wednesday the next trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will debut so it seems like a good time for new stills from the movie. USA Today has published eight new stills from the movie with comments from trilogy writer Philippa Boyens. All 8 can be viewed here. The one comment that provided new insight into the movie is for Radagast the Brown (Sylvester McCoy), a character that is not in The Hobbit book but appeared in the Lord of the Rings novel.
The wizard Radagast the Brown (Sylvester McCoy) is only mentioned in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Hobbit book once, but Boyens had enough to go on to boost his role in the new movie series, and she feels he’s going to become a well-loved character. “He’s not at all like Gandalf,” Boyens says. “There’s a power and danger and sharpness and wits and cunning even about Gandalf that you sense immediately, whereas Radagast is much quieter and gentler. You could mistakenly think he’s not even a wizard or that he might not have any powers of his own, and then you discover that he does.”

Updated The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Scroll, New Stills
Spoiler warning! Warner Bros has released a new updated version of their The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey scroll (below) to reflect the story pacing chances that have been made now that The Hobbit has been expanded to a trilogy. In the previous scroll (second image below) the order of events was Bilbo meets Gollum > everyone treed by goblins and wargs > meet Beorn the Skin-Changer (bear with Gandalf) > attacked by giant spiders in Mirkwood Forest > escape from Mirkwood elves by barrel. In the new scroll the order of events remain the same but split between the first film and The Desolation of Smaug. In Journey it will be Bilbo meets Gollum > treed by goblins and wargs > escape with help of Eagles. Meeting Beorn may end the film or open Smaug and then things pick up again with Mirkwood events. This amounts to around 30 or so minutes cut from the film. This difference could just mean the film was already too long anyway (basically anything over 2.5 hours) or Jahttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifckson added in additional scenes to expand on the story.
Besides the scrolls below, WB also released 14 new stills from the film which you can find here and here.

More from Lilly, New Hobbit Image
Evangeline Lilly previously provided a little information about playing the role of Tauriel in The Hobbit. In a recent interview with Yahoo! Movies she elaborated on the preparation and training required for the role. In addition the article provided this great image of Bilbo with Bifur, Dawlin, Bofur and Oin at Bag's End.Working on "The Hobbit," though, has radically changed how she readies herself for a role. "I can't just be spontaneous, because there is nothing natural about being an elf," Lilly said. "It's not human, so I have to study to learn what it means to be this other creature."Also discovered the RSS Feed link in the top right was wrong and fixed it. No telling how long it was point to the wrong blog. Sorry about that.
This means Lilly has had to train to walk, talk, and, of course, fight like an elf. She said, "So, on top of my stunt training -- which I need to learn how to be proficient with the bow and arrow, and with daggers, and in fighting orcs that are, you know, ten feet tall -- I also have to learn the language of Elvish, and I have to learn an RP [Received Pronunciation] neutral English accent for when I speak English." When you add in learning to move and gesture like an elf, Lilly figures she has spent "four times as much time preparing as I do actually shooting."
