The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Blu-ray, Steelbook Pre-orders

Amazon/Prime Video has set a release date for you to buy physical copy of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1 and 2 for the first time. The seasons will come in DVD, Blu-ray, Blu-ray 4K, and Steelbook versions. Release date is November 3, 2026 for Blu-ray, 4K, and DVD versions. The SteelBook version, exclusive to Amazon, is set for December 1, 2026. Extra features are the same that are currently available on Amazon Prime.

Rings of Power Season 3 in 2026

It seems the season three of The Rings of Power may come earlier than estimated. The Hollywood Reporter says the season is set for release in late 2026 instead of sometime in 2027. No specific date was provided. The series is currently expected to complete its five season plan that will possibly end near or during the final battle that is the opening war sequence in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. They also posted official plot synopsis for the season:

Jumping forward several years from the events of season two, season three takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.

Visual Effects in Forging the Elven Rings of Power

Outpost VFX, one of the studios that worked on the visual effects for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, has posted a breakdown reel of their work with a focus on the scene where the three Elven rings were forged. Building Middle-Earth Behind the Scenes Vids from The Rings of Power

The Hollywood Reporter has posted five behind the scenes videos that look into the production design that went into building the world of Middle-Earth during the Second Age. The vids look into pulling off Harfoots environments and their size relative to that, construction of the Númenor set, the look of the Dwarves, a look at the visual effects that went into allowing all the various sized races to exist on screen, and the score of the TV series.

The Rings of Power Season 2 Adds Three New Castmembers

Deadline is reporting that Ciarán Hinds, Rory Kinnear and Tanya Moodie have joined the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 cast. Per usual for this kind of stuff, no character information or other details were provided. Ciarán Hinds has been around chewing the scenery for ages in many TV shows and movies include The Wonder, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and many more. Rory Kinnear is probably most familiar for The Imitation Game and in the Daniel Craig era of James Bond films. Tanya Moodie might be nown for Motherland, Star Wars IX and more. Currently there is no date for release of season 2 but current estimate is probably 2024.

The Rings of Power Announces Eight More Cast Members

The cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 continues to expand. Previously six new cast members were announced but yesterday another 8 were revealed. Per usual, no details on what their roles will be in the season that is expected sometime in 2024. The new cast members are Oliver Alvin-Wilson (The Bay), Stuart Bowman (The Pact), Gavi Singh Chera (The Undeclared War), William Chubb (Vampire Academy), Kevin Eldon (Game of Thrones), Will Keen (Ridley Road), Selina Lo (Boss Level), and Calam Lynch (Bridgerton).

Actor Replaced, Six More Join Rings of Power Season 2

Some brief casting news regarding The Rings of Power season 2. In a bit of unexpected news, Joseph Mawle has left The Rings of Power. The actor played Orc leader Adar in the first season. The character will now be played by Sam Hazeldine (Slow Horses). There could be a season story reason for the change but more then likely its not. No explanation was provided for the re-casting. 

In addition, Yasen Atour (The Witcher), Ben Daniels (Jupiter's Legacy), Gabriel Akuwudike (Hanna), Nicolas Woodeson (Silent Witness), Nia Towle (Persuasion) and Amelia Kenworthy have joined the cast in unspecified roles. Season 2 is currently filming. Considering the scope and the heavy special effects, chances of a 2023 release date is slim.

The Making of the Rings of Power Available Now

If looking for an excuse to re-watch The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season, Amazon has provided it. The Making of the Rings of Power is now available on Amazon Prime for each episode of the series. It can either be watched while watching the series itself via the X-Ray feature. If not interested in a re-watch then scroll down to the "Extras" tab where there are eight videos of six minutes each you can watch. Personally I would rather have one long behind the scenes video that focused on content rather then sales pitch (if watching BTS stuff then already sold...) but sadly about the only time you fill find that is with the LOTR trilogy's Appendices.

The Rings of Power Season 2 Begins Filming in October

The One Rings reports that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 will begin production on October 7. Unlike last season which was filmed in New Zealand, most of this season will be shot in the UK at Bray Studios near Windsor Castle. The production was moved to the country after the mostly UK cast complained of the distance from family and friends. The filming itself will mostly be on studio sets so don't expect much in leaks. It also means that the second season is at least a full year away from release, if not longer, considering the extensive visual effects the series requires.

The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power First Episodes Now Available

Friendly reminder that The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power has begun its first season, eight episode run with the release of the first two episodes on Amazon Prime. Each new episode will come out each Thursday night, Friday morning depending on time zone.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Official Trailer

Amazon Prime has released a new trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power that will premiere on the service starting Stepember 2nd. This trailer gives a bit of a tour of the areas, characters, and races of Middle-Earth that the season will explore that does seem cinematic and epic in scope.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Soundtrack Now Streaming

Amazon has released the season 1 soundtrack to The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Amazon Music and Spotify. The Amazon version has two additional tracks with “Find the Light” and “The Promised King.” Amazon will also release a "weekly soundtrack album containing the entirety of the score for each episode, plus additional bonus tracks available on Amazon Music." The score is composed by Bear McCreary. Howard Shore composed the main title music.  

Besides being available on streaming, Amazon has teamed with Mondo to release the season score on vinyl and CD. Hit links below to pre-order. The series premieres on September 2nd.

The Rings of Power Worldwide Release Schedule

Amazon Prime Video has announced that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will have its first two episodes  released at the same time worldwide. Of course depending on timezone that may not be the best news. The release is set for 1am UTC on September 2 with each episode releasing weekly thereafter on Friday at 4am UTC.  If do not feel like doing the math on what that means, below is a time zone breakdown.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power SDCC Trailer

With the San Diego Comic-Con going on this weekend, Amazon Prime has unleashed the first full trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power that really gets into what the story may be. It also provides a look at the epic scale of the story that looks to fit right alongside effortlessly with the Peter Jackson epics. New character posters for the series can be found here.

The Rings of Power Score Composers Revealed

A question many of The Lord of the Rings fans have wondered about Amazon Prime's upcoming The Rings of Power is who would score it and would the score continue the rich amazing music created by Howard Shore for the two trilogies? The answer is yes to both.

Howard Shore has signed on to compose the main title for the series while Bear McCreary will compose the music for each episode. Shore needs no introduction but you might be familiar with McCreary music even if not aware of it.  He has composed the music for Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead, God of War video games, Outlander and many more. To give a taste of the music, below is "Galadriel" and "Sauron" from the series soundtrack.

“With their deep understanding of the Tolkien legendarium, coupled with two of the greatest musical talents of our age, we’re thrilled that Howard and Bear are joining us on this epic journey to Middle-earth,” said Bob Bowen, Worldwide Head of Music for Amazon Studios. Said McCreary: “As I set out to compose the score for this series, I strove to honor Howard Shore’s musical legacy. When I heard his majestic main title, I was struck by how perfectly his theme and my original score, though crafted separately, fit together so beautifully. The series is set to premiere on Amazon Prime starting September 2.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Main Teaser Trailer

Amazon Prime has released another teaser trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Teaser is right as it does nothing to explain the story but does give you a look at the environments, people, and characters that the series will be following. Just a quick note that Harfoots is ancestor race to the Hobbits.  As part of the release, Entertainment Weekly has an article with the showrunners as they discuss creating the show.  The first 8 episode season will premiere weekly on Amazon Prime starting September 2.
