In announcing the pact Wednesday, officials said the releases will feature a mix of 2D and 3D titles. Some of the 3D pics tagged for Imax venues include "Legends of the Guardian: The Owls of Ga'Hoole," set to hit theaters Sept. 24; "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" on Nov. 19; "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II" on July 15, 2011; "Happy Feet 2" on Nov. 18, 2011; and "The Hobbit," penciled in as a December 2012 release. No decision has been made on The Hobbit films coming in 3-D but I assume if they do the two films will be released in "IMAX 3D". Considering a goal is to remain a look that matches the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, I doubt any footage will be shot in 70mm like had been done for select scenes in The Dark Knight and Transformers 2.

The Hobbit Films Coming to IMAX
While the details of the production schedule remain in limbo until someone buys MGM, at least we know now the films are hitting IMAX thanks to a new 20-film deal Warner Bros. signed with the IMAX corporation.
