Matthew Goode Up for Bilbo Baggins?

According to the UK Telegragh, Matthew Goode has auditioned for the role of Bilbo Baggins for the two Hobbit films. Most might be familiar with the actor for playing Ozymadias/Adrian Veidt in Watchmen. The information was part of a profile on the actor for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards or UK's version of the Oscars.
he’d auditioned for the role of Bilbo Baggins in Guillermo del Toro’s two-part film of The Hobbit. As he is the first to admit, he’s not an obvious choice – ‘Look at the size of me for Christ’s sake!’ If he got the part, he would, he says, find it almost impossible to refuse – despite the fact that it would involve him spending several months in New Zealand.
Likely Guillermo del Toro is seeing a lot of actors for the critical role so I wouldn't be surprised if this is the first of many auditions we hear about for the next few months.
