Wood, Astin Talk The Hobbit

In two seperate interviews with Access Hollywood, The Lord of the Rings actors Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins) and Sean Astin (Sam Gamgee) spoke about The Hobbit in the two videos below. Elijah's interview had the most info as he is briefly reprising his role for The Hobbit. He said he is heading to New Zealand in October, has not read the script but aware of his part which is "a small little piece". He is mostly looking forward to seeing Peter Jackson, the cast and the crew that he worked with about 12 years ago. The Sean Astin interview is mostly just him hangng out somewhere talking about the product displays but towards the end he explains that he will not be in The Hobbit film since his character wasn't born yet. 1. That doesn't make any sense - Frodo's character would not have been born yet, either. They must be doing some kind of time-jumping around in the story. After all, Jackson is pulling from the Silmarillion and other stories. Sam could be in it if Frodo is... I'm just saying, that is not the reason Sam isn't in the movie.

  2. Why is it so hard for people to see how easy it would be to fit all of the hobbits back in this film? The book is the key. You have a small, heart warming scene with Old Bilbo, Frodo, Sam, Merry & Pip as Bilbo begins to read HIS adventure to them...then it transitions back to the time of The Hobbit. Clearly PJ is clever enough to construct such an easy set up. Fans would love it. Same @ the very end of the second film when he's done telling his story. Transition forward.

  3. It is interesting that Tolkien derived his inspiration from the Drakensberg and no footage of that landscape appears in the movies. It would only be right to at least show some of that beauty too. As for the Hobbit I liked to take it out on record at the library and listen to it as an LP. I wonder if you can still get that version of the Hobbit?
