The Hobbit, Illustrated by Mauriece Sendak?

Hero Complex has posted an interesting essay that looks into an abandoned edition of The Hobbit that would have been illustrated by Mauriece Sendak who wrote and illustrated Where the Wild Things Are. The article gets into the history of the plan as part of a 30th anniversary edition of the novel and how it fell through thanks to an editor mislabeling the illustrations and JRR Tolkiens famed defense of his creation that continues through to his family (see their volume of lawsuits). Click here to read the entire story and look at some of the sample art that Sendak had put together for the edition.
