Today the Sun reported as fact that ex-Spider-Man Tobey Maguire signed on to play Bilbo Baggins for the two The Hobbit films. However, if you read the link, it just quotes a source while not getting a statement from anyone officially with the production.
AICN heard the news and decided to attempt to confirm the story directly from Hobbit Executive Producer Peter Jackson and Director Guillermo Del Toro. Jackson's responded, "No truth at all, although we're all big fans of Toby. We are currently auditioning for Bilbo, and a month or two away from any announcements" while del Toro said "Its not true..."
So long story short, Maguire is not currently cast as Bilbo, casting is currently underway and around two months away before anything is officially announced.
